In a recent Imgur video titled "Some of these are good ideas, actually," a woman shares her unconventional yet effective methods for staying safe while living alone. These strategies are aimed at deterring potential intruders and ensuring peace of mind.

The video begins with her first tip: placing a male mannequin by her front gate. From a distance, it appears as though a man is watching over the property. This visual deterrent is complemented by several large male shoes placed outside the front door, creating the illusion that men reside in the home.

The woman has also hired an exiled Shaolin monk who patrols her property for 12 hours each day. This adds an additional layer of security and gives potential intruders something to think twice about. She acknowledges that for full coverage, some might consider hiring two Shaolin monks.

In the backyard, a cage equipped with a growling dog audio recording plays every 15 minutes. This creates the impression of a fierce canine guardian. Inside the home, a drone with facial recognition technology patrols the living room and kitchen, adding a high-tech layer of security.

One of the most creative solutions is her decoy room. Here, a mannequin lies in bed, accompanied by a security camera in the corner. This room is also rigged with tripwire lasers that, when triggered, set off an alarm and release a non-lethal gas to tranquilize the intruder. This gives the Shaolin monk time to handcuff the intruder while waiting for the police to arrive.

The video has sparked a variety of reactions. One user humorously asks if the monk came with ankle jewelry or if it was an added touch. Another user appreciates the "salt circle" idea, jokingly referring to supernatural protection. Some comments suggest practical improvements, such as having two monks for round-the-clock security or simply getting a real dog.

A user humorously shared a personal anecdote about using a life-size cardboard standup of Captain Kirk to deter people, which initially served as an office prank but later became a home defense tool. Another user humorously questions the need for the monk's electronic foot jewelry.

While some comments reveal concerns, such as how to handle police encounters or the exiled status of the Shaolin monk, others offer additional safety tips. One user mentions a woman who pretended to hike with a man by signing a trail book, deterring potential threats.

Overall, the video showcases a blend of humor and ingenuity in addressing home safety for women living alone. Each measure, from mannequins to drones, highlights creative thinking and resourcefulness in the face of potential danger.

This would probably work. I used to have a life-size cardboard standup of Captain Kirk, and I was forced to get rid of it by family and coworkers. I originally got it to put in the doorway of the cubicle where I worked to announce I was on vacation. Then some salespeople came to the office late at night and nearly had a heart attack when they saw some dude in the dark. I took it home and it freaked out the wife and other visitors when they caught Kirk out of the corner of their eye.

Okay, but how do you defend yourself from the cops?

Man I gotta get a shaolin monk. But what about the other 12 hours of the day? 2 shaolin monks?

I don't know if this is a useful tip, so take this with a grain of salt. I recently saw a video about a woman who went hiking alone and when she signed the trail book at the start of the route she put down that she was accompanied by a man, to try and stop people preying on a lone woman.
