A recent viral video on Imgur titled "Hi, can I have one?" has sparked widespread controversy and concern among viewers. The footage shows a child interacting with a large Burmese python, causing alarm over the safety and appropriateness of such an encounter.

Veterinarians with experience working in zoos stress the importance of strict safety protocols when handling large snakes. One expert mentioned a rule requiring one person per six feet of snake to ensure safe conditions. This video, however, seems to disregard such precautions, as the child is seen alone with the python, leading many to label the situation as outright dangerous.

The comments reflect a mixture of humor and serious concern. Phrases like "Trusssst in meeee. Jusssst in meeee" and "All fun and games til it wants a hug" add a touch of dark humor to the otherwise tense discussion. Some users even joke about the snake, calling it a "big noodle" or a "banana flavored danger noodle."

However, the lighthearted remarks are overshadowed by worry and criticism. Many question the parenting skills on display, with one user bluntly stating, "That's some terrible parenting." Another comment highlights the risk of salmonella, pointing out the dangers of touching a snake and then handling food.

The potential for a tragic outcome is a recurring theme in the comments. "No matter how well you 'know' the snake, this can go south really fast," one user warns, emphasizing that if the python decided to attack, the child would be defenseless. Another comment points out that despite the presence of strong adults, the initial strike could cause severe injury.

Real-life anecdotes also surface in the discussion. One user shares a story about a friend’s Burmese python that peacefully coexists with other pets but consistently lunges at the wife. This unpredictability underscores the inherent risk of allowing a child to interact with such a powerful animal.

In addition to safety concerns, some comments critique the setting. Observing the brickwork, one user speculates that the video was filmed in a UK house, suggesting the snake might be too cold to be fully active. While this might reduce immediate danger, it does not eliminate the risks entirely.

Overall, the video has ignited a heated debate over the appropriateness and safety of allowing children to interact with large snakes. The consensus among concerned viewers is clear: such interactions are fraught with peril, and the potential consequences are far too severe to ignore.

All fun and games til it wants a hug.

We had a rule working zoos (as veterinarians) that there had to be one person per six feet of snake, or it was an unsafe situation (snakes requiring special handling such as venomous snakes aside). Just in case the not so smart, but very strong animal gets a weird idea. This video makes me very uncomfortable.

I wouldn't trust a snake bigger than I am, much less with a small child.

Touching a snake, and then your mouth, much less putting some food in your mouth that was in your hand when you touched the snake, seems like a great way to get salmonella.

No matter how well you "know" the snake, this can go south really fast. That is absolutely child endangerment. If the snake decided to attack, the child would be dead before anyone could do anything about it.

I have absolutely no authority over whoever is asking this but the answer is still no.
