In the ever-evolving digital landscape, advice that once seemed groundbreaking can quickly become obsolete. This phenomenon is humorously captured in a widely-shared meme featuring the "Actual Advice Mallard," a meme known for its practical yet straightforward tips.

The image showcases a male mallard duck with a glossy green head, a yellow beak, and a chestnut-brown chest, swimming in serene waters. The text overlays on the image read, "WANT TO DOWNLOAD A YOUTUBE VIDEO?" at the top, and "TYPE 'SS' AFTER THE WWW. IN THE URL." at the bottom. While this advice might have been useful a decade ago, the comments from users reveal just how outdated it has become.

One user pointed out, "The SS Youtube thing hasn't worked since 2020," highlighting the rapidly changing nature of digital tools and services. Another user offered a modern alternative, suggesting the use of yt-dlp, a tool that has gained popularity for its effectiveness in downloading videos from various platforms.

The meme also sparked a discussion about citation tools, with one user recommending Zotero or Mendeley for large projects, while another noted that Bibme can suffice for smaller tasks. This exchange underscores the importance of staying updated with current tools and technologies to ensure efficiency and reliability.

Interestingly, the meme's appearance led to nostalgic reflections, with one commenter noting, "That's a repost from a decade ago, so the advice might be dated..." This sentiment resonated with other users who reminisced about the evolution of online tools and platforms.

In a humorous twist, a user lamented the missed opportunity to rickroll viewers, a nod to the classic internet prank involving Rick Astley's "Never Gonna Give You Up." Another user shared a practical tip to avoid sketchy third-party sites by using VLC to open and download YouTube videos.

The discussion also touched on educational resources, with one user clarifying that "MIT OCW is just raw course content and outlines to be used for creating your own courses really. It's not actual courses you can take." This was contrasted with edX, an online platform offering actual courses, though it's now operated by a for-profit company.

As technology continues to advance, the Actual Advice Mallard meme serves as a humorous reminder of how quickly digital advice can become outdated. While the meme's original tip may no longer be relevant, the lively discussion it sparked offers a treasure trove of updated advice and practical solutions for today's digital landscape.

For citations, it is far more efficient in bigger projects or a long list of references to use the actual program with a writing environment implementation. Like Zotero or Mendeley. Smaller ones Bibme is ok tool.

You had a chance to rickroll everybody with your Youtube link and you missed it.
