A viral video titled "I Am the Dishwasher" has sparked a lively debate online about the age-old trade-off between cooking and dishwashing. The video's protagonist humorously argues that while it is fair to ask someone to do the dishes if they aren’t cooking, the trade is far from even. "Dishes s***!" he exclaims, adding that dishwashing is neither satisfying nor fulfilling compared to the creativity involved in cooking.

The video has struck a chord with many viewers, leading to a flood of comments. One user noted, "I see a few of you took this QUITE personally!" and added that there is some satisfaction in doing dishes, especially if one can enjoy music, TV shows, or audiobooks in the background. Another commenter shared, "When I'm cooking, I can't have too many distractions unless I'm cooking something super easy, because I'm trying to make something delicious, but dishwashing never takes a lot of thought."

The debate extends to practical advice as well. One seasoned dishwasher suggested, "Take it from a guy who washed dishes by hand for 25 years; buy a dishwasher and save your relationship." This sentiment was echoed by another user who questioned, "Don't you have dishwashers over there?"

Interestingly, the video also prompted some viewers to discuss their household dynamics. One comment shared, "When I cook, I do the dishes. When my partner cooks, I do the dishes. She does the laundry. I feel like I've come out ahead in this trade." Another added, "My husband and I have an agreement where if he cooks then I do the dishes. Now I cook half the time and do the dishes every time."

The debate even touched on personal anecdotes. One user amusingly recounted, "Sadly, when I lived in eastern KY, a 'professional colleague' related to me that his wife had not had time to cook his breakfast one morning. So he made his own scrambled eggs, deliberately dirtying every bowl and pan in the kitchen. He thought it was funny... <grrrrrrrrrr>."

For those struggling with the dishwashing dilemma, a user recommended watching the videos by Technology Connections on YouTube to learn how to use a dishwasher efficiently.

In summary, the video "I Am the Dishwasher" has not only entertained but also opened up a broader discussion on household chores, relationships, and the quest for a fair division of labor. Whether you're a cook, a dishwasher, or both, the conversation around this video is both relatable and enlightening.

There is some satisfaction to doing dishes, because you can crank some music or have a TV show or audiobook on in the background. When I'm cooking, I can't have too many distractions unless I'm cooking something super easy, because I'm trying to make something *delicious*, but dishwashing never takes a lot of thought. Also, if you both hate dishwashing and at least one of you rants? Take it from a guy who washed dishes by hand for 25 years; buy a d***** dishwasher and save your relationship.

My friend asked who this guy is?

I don't mind doing dishes; my only issue is that nearly all sinks are low enough that my back ends up hurting. What I really don't enjoy is working, coming home and cooking, and then having no one else willing to do dishes. Most of the time, if I want them done after I cook, I have to pretend not to see them until someone else does finally do them. More often than not, I end up cooking again and have to wash them regardless. That being said, I am sometimes guilty of the same when my wife cooks.
