A recent post on the subreddit r/AskReddit has captured the hearts of many, detailing a deeply moving story that highlights the extraordinary compassion of a single parent. The post, titled "[Serious] What was said, that forever changed your relationship with someone?" prompted a flood of heartfelt responses. Among them, a comment by user One-Internet-1982 stood out, drawing widespread admiration and emotional reactions.

The comment recounts the experience of a single parent who was taking a group of 12-year-old friends, including their son, out for pizza and a movie. Amidst the fun and excitement, one child, named E, whispered, "I wish you were my Mom." This seemingly simple statement set off a series of life-altering events.

The poster soon learned that E's mother was incarcerated due to drug-related issues, and his father, who lived with a girlfriend, was unable to provide a stable home. E was sleeping on the floor of a den without even a bed. Over time, E began spending weekends at the poster's home, and it became apparent that no one was checking on him or providing for his basic needs.

One night, E's father called to ask if E could stay with the poster for an extended period due to a breakup with his girlfriend. The poster readily agreed, and E continued to live with them through middle school, high school, and college.

The story took another poignant turn when another child, G, whose parents were jailed, showed up at the poster's house, knowing it as a safe haven. G too was welcomed with open arms, bypassing the state system to stay as long as needed.

This act of kindness resonated deeply with the Reddit community. Comments poured in, sharing similar experiences and praising the poster for their selflessness. One commenter mentioned, "A Toast! To the lady that takes care of kids!" Another expressed, "You made a grown man cry. Incredibly uplifting story."

The post also inspired others to share their own tales of compassion. One user recounted how their mother took in a foreign exchange student who was being mistreated, eventually becoming a second family to them. Another described how their parents provided a home for an 18-year-old who had been kicked out by her guardian.

This touching story serves as a powerful reminder of the impact that kindness and compassion can have on the lives of others. It highlights the importance of providing a safe and loving environment for those in need, and the profound difference one person can make.

The Reddit post has not only changed the relationship between the poster and the children they took in but has also inspired many others to consider how they might extend a helping hand to those in need. This narrative of selfless love and support continues to resonate, offering hope and encouragement to all who read it.

That was me. I went to live with a friend after my father tried to burn our place down in a drunken rage. I lived there 10+ years

I’m saying this only because she mentioned god: now THAT there is what Jesus Christ meant.

Not exactly the same, but around 15 years ago my HS sponsored foreign exchange students. One of them (C) went to this couple who were treating C awful. My mom found out and pulled C out of there. She lived with us for the rest of her time in the US. She's since come back to visit a few times with friends, cave out to my mom (I think before her own family) & we flew to her country for her wedding last year. During his speech, her dad called us her 2nd family.

"But SOCIALISM!" - some completely uninvolved Trumper neighbor, probably

I'm guessing as they by-passed the state they didn't get any extra financial support for the kids either. Really exceptional acts of compassion here

Now I kind of wish my son puts some kids needing a home in our path; he could use a sibling. What a wonderful thing this woman did. I know someone who is now mom to her niece and nephew. Their mom and dad are going through what the parents in the post are (drugs and jail time)

I'm glad this ended up being a heartwarming story. The topic made me think it was gonna be some bad experiences.
