In a thought-provoking video titled "Brendan Speaks," Brendan provides a compelling argument that challenges the commonly held perceptions about jobs in coffee shops and similar service industries. Brendan recounts a conversation with a man who belittled the idea of working in a coffee shop as a career. Brendan questions the man's viewpoint, asking if he believed coffee shops should not exist, to which the man admitted he loved coffee. Brendan's point becomes clear: if society values coffee shops, then the people working there should be respected and able to live with dignity and comfort.

This video has sparked significant conversation among viewers. One user stated, "A job is a job and 40 hrs of any job should support at least 1 person at a wage decent enough they can afford life, health, and OMG maybe even the stuff they sell to the public." Another viewer pointed out the harsh reality, "These jobs are often way harder than a lot of skilled BS due to people BS. It's just sad."

User Brennan emphasized, "It's the social contract. Work your 40 hours, pay your tax, follow the law. That is your piece. In return you _should_ get certain things, like education, safety, healthcare and the ownership of your home."

The discussion extends to the economic implications, with one comment highlighting, "Minimum wage should cover the minimum, rent, rates and still have enough left for yourself. It shouldn’t mean it’s a midway job and you should do better. Otherwise no one would stack shelves, be a barista or deliver your food."

Personal anecdotes shared by viewers reinforce Brendan's message. One user recalled, "Back when I was working as a cashier, one time a customer asked me 'when are you going to get a real job?' and I was so confused. I was at my job, where I worked 35 hours per week, what do you mean? She made it very clear then that she thought that nobody should work as a cashier."

The sentiment of supporting service workers is echoed by many, with one viewer adding, "Any honest work is honorable, and people shouldn't have to work two or three to make a sustaining living, especially in what is commonly considered the 'wealthiest' country in the world."

Brendan's video is a wake-up call to reconsider societal values and the respect afforded to those in service jobs. It urges a shift in perspective, advocating for a world where every job is valued, and every worker is treated with the dignity they deserve.

I don't have the words. I complain agree. Even as someone who is doing marginally better than others. A job is a job and 40 hrs of any job should support at least 1 person at a wage decent enough they can afford life, health, and OMG maybe even the s*** they sell to the public. America has lost its 1st world status if a 40hr work week can't ensure basic needs. These jobs are often way harder than a lot skilled bs due to people bs. It's just sad

It's the social contract. Work your 40 hours, pay your tax, follow the law. That is your piece. In return you _should_ get certain things, like education, safety, healthcare and the ownership of your home. But the right.

It’s America; you’re either supposed to run an orphan crushing machine or be the one getting crushed.

Minimum wage should cover the minimum, rent, rates and still have enough left for yourself. It shouldn’t mean it’s a midway job and you should do better. Otherwise no one would stack shelves be a barista or deliver your food. People in better walks of life having been fed opportunities think these people should “Pull themselves up by their bootstraps.” And do better and that’s why they’re struggling. It’s a stupid train of thought because if everyone did then who serves you coffee?

Back when I was working as a cashier, one time a customer asked me "when are you going to get a real job?" and I was so confused. I was at my job, where I worked 35 hours per week, wtf do you mean? She made it very clear then that she thought that nobody should work as a cashier, and I asked her "well, how would you buy stuff from stores if there were no cashiers?" and she had no comeback for that. This was a time before self checkouts.
