A recent video on Imgur, titled "I remember when a liquor store asked me for a tip lol," has ignited a lively discussion about the evolving and sometimes bewildering culture of tipping. The video humorously captures a customer’s experience at a liquor store, where they are bombarded with requests to tip various ent*****, including the store employees, farmers, and even a character named Tippy, who is responsible for processing the tips.

The video begins with the customer purchasing hot dogs and buns. As they proceed to the checkout, they are repeatedly asked if they would like to leave a tip for the hard-working employees. The situation quickly escalates as "Tippy" appears, thanking the customer for tipping and ensuring the tip goes to those who deserve it. The customer is then asked to tip for a range of services, from feeding starving children to donating to cancer research, but consistently refuses to tip Tippy.

This video has struck a chord with many viewers, as evidenced by the numerous comments reflecting on their own experiences with tipping. One commenter shared their frustration about being asked for a tip at Little Caesars, while another recounted a similar encounter at a steak and shake, where all wait staff had been replaced by screens, yet a tip was still requested for "management and staff."

The tipping culture in the US has long been a topic of debate, with some international viewers expressing confusion over the concept. One user stated, "I never understood this tip culture. I prefer when employees get a decent salary." Another echoed this sentiment, stating, "As I got older I started to realize tips were not for the workers... they were for the corporations."

Others have shared their own tipping horror stories, including being asked for tips at Subway and Starbucks drive-throughs. One particularly irate commenter mentioned how they had to tip when buying a beer at a hockey game, despite doing all the work themselves.

The video and subsequent discussion highlight a growing dissatisfaction with the tipping culture, with many calling for a more straightforward system where employees are paid fair wages without the need for tips. Some commenters have even adopted personal rules, such as only tipping when seated or refusing to tip at self-checkout lines.

As the debate rages on, it's clear that tipping culture is a contentious issue, with many advocating for change. The humorous yet thought-provoking video serves as a catalyst for this ongoing conversation, pushing viewers to reconsider the role and necessity of tipping in today's society.

Went into a steak and shake recently who mind you replaced ALL their wait staff with screens in addition to raising prices on all menu items. So basically pull a number and serve yourself. The screen order at the end had the audacity to ask me to leave a tip for "management and staff"...

If I'm going to tip anyone at the grocery store self-checkout line It's going to be me, and I'm going to tip myself the entire cost of the groceries. Any store that asks for tips can p*** off and never get my service again.

The last time I went to a hockey game I went to buy a beer. I took the can of beer out of a cooler myself. I scanned it myself. I swiped my card at the terminal myself. Then the terminal asked me if i wanted to leave a tip for the guy who stood there and watched me do everything myself. And that dude had the nerve to look offended when I clicked "no tip".

Meanwhile, the very same grocery store searches you using facial recognition and auto plate license plate look ups. If you look "suspect" you're added to a watch list. All while selling all of your data for your purchases and shopping habits.

Local pizza place I order online from has an option to tip online, which I do. But I think it is ballsy when I go to get my pizza, on the receipt, it not only acknowledges that I tipped online, but asks for an "additional tip." F***ing why?
