The meme culture has once again delivered a gem that perfectly encapsulates the bewilderment many Europeans feel when they catch up on American news. An image making the rounds on Imgur features a close-up of Tom, the iconic grey cat from "Tom and Jerry," with an expression of wide-eyed surprise and raised eyebrows. This humorous illustration is paired with the text:

**"Europeans: opening Imgur to find out what new s*** the Americans have gotten themselves into while they slept."**

The meme captures the collective sentiment of European users who often wake up to find their social media feeds flooded with the latest, and often chaotic, events from across the Atlantic. Tom's expressive face, complete with perked-up ears and slightly drooping whiskers, provides a perfect visual representation of shock and disbelief.

Comments on the post reflect a mix of empathy, humor, and exasperation:

One user quipped, "Got any room over there for Americans who are sick of the new stuff daily??" Another compared the current state of American democracy to the final season of "Game of Thrones," saying, "This final season of American Democracy is going about as well as the final season of GOT."

The meme also sparked discussions about the challenges of staying focused amidst constant distractions. One commenter shared, "It's getting real hard for me to stay focused on my job and paying my bills when this stuff keeps happening and I feel like we're sleepwalking into something major."

Others expressed frustration with the political climate and societal issues. "This country has lost its collective marbles. My neighbor got swatted yesterday. What an absolute circus. Thankfully no one was hurt," shared one user. Another advised, "You can block the Politics tag, and that helps."

The image serves as a poignant reminder of the global interconnectedness facilitated by social media platforms like Imgur. It highlights how international audiences are not just passive observers but active participants in the conversations surrounding American socio-political events.

This Tom and Jerry meme not only provides a moment of levity but also underscores the shared bewilderment and concern felt by an international audience. As Americans navigate their complex socio-political landscape, Europeans (and indeed the world) continue to watch, often with expressions as surprised as Tom's wide, yellow eyes.

Yeah, I got a few new games on steam sale, have been playing almost non-stop, and then this. Could you be a functional modern democracy for FIVE MINUTES ?

Apparently they don't know anything about firearms and not much about their own political system. Thankfully I, a Swede is here to help them although they seem to get angry when their simplistic ideas are challenged. I'd say both sides but it's just one side, liberals are not stupid enough to not get it but they are universally hated on this forum. Or rather *we* are. A part of the Social Democratic movement (which is liberal) I do experience that a lot, anything less than extremism is disliked.
