In a rapidly circulating tweet, Umair, a verified Twitter user with the handle @umairh, delivers a stark warning about the perils of dismissing political candidates based solely on age. The tweet, which has been reposted by a user named "Uncle Dad," reads: "I gotta tell you guys as someone who’s lived through social collapse 'but the other guy was so OLD!!' is gonna feel mighty stupid when the fascists control your lives."

The tweet's poignant message has sparked a flurry of reactions and discussions on various social media platforms. Many users are resonating with Umair's concerns, emphasizing the necessity of focusing on substantial political issues rather than superficial characteristics like age. The post highlights the risks of underestimating the gravity of political choices in the face of potential authoritarian governance.

One user commented, "People saying this stuff refuse to take accountability for their political actions. They'll blame Democrats for not running a better candidate as if they had no agency of their own." Another added, "Media is never going to frame this election accurately, because the oligarchs that own them have too much interest in maintaining the status quo."

The tweet's context is further enriched by the ongoing debate about the ages of prominent political figures like Joe Biden and Donald Trump, who are often scrutinized for their age and cognitive abilities. As one commenter pointed out, "Biden and Trump are less than 3 years apart in age."

Umair's tweet serves as a critical reminder of the importance of voting and making informed choices. One user passionately urged, "We can squabble over geriatric candidates AFTER we prevent the fascist dictatorship. Don't let yourself get distracted - what we got is what we got, so make the most of it and don't let it get worse. Go vote."

The tweet's message is clear: superficial arguments about age should not overshadow the critical need to evaluate candidates based on their policies and potential impact on society. As the political landscape continues to evolve, Umair's warning remains a powerful call to action for voters to prioritize the future of democracy over age-related biases.

The people saying this s*** refuse to take accountability for their political actions. People will be getting marched off to prison and executed for political dissent, and they'll sit there and with complete conviction say it was actually the Democrats' fault for not running a better candidate, as if they had absolutely no agency of their own, no independent ability to do the right thing. In their mind, the voters, no matter how inadequate, are completely beyond reproach.

People who think our s***ty political media will suddenly shift the questions of age and cognition to Trump if some younger Dem takes over is fooling themselves. Harris (or whomever) may get a weekend of honeymoon stories, but then the NYT and the news networks will start non-stop stories about how their polling isn't improving fast enough, etc. Media is never going to frame this election accurately, because the oligarchs that own them have too much interest in maintaining the s***ty status quo.

They're both f***ing old though

Yes HOW THE F*** is that even a valid argument when 'But this guy is OLD!' I'll just throw my weight to the guy who will sell my children, wife, sister, and mother into sexual slavery, take away all the rights of anyone a different color than him, steal my organs and sell them back to me, and is ALSO old!' GOD'DAMN Americans u REALLY love to celebrate your absolute stupidity sometimes.

"But Al Gore is such a square!" got us Bush, and those were 7+ awful years, followed by non-stop attempts to repeal Obamacare. PLEASE let's not make that mistake again, America.

Pretty sure the folks that exploded that narrative were the bot-nets, and it got a lot of non-bot folks talking about it like it was actually something.

Biden's age and mental decline isn't going to prevent me from voting for him, but I'm no longer supporting his candidacy or listening to his campaign. People like me are still going to vote blue (or mostly blue), but we're not the ones that need him to drop out. It's the undecided. In 2020, Biden was the only one who could beat trump, now he's the only one who can lose to him. And he will.
