In a fascinating blend of humor and caution, an iconic moment from the filming of "Return of the Jedi" reveals an unexpected concern for actor Peter Mayhew. The legendary actor, who brought the beloved Star Wars character Chewbacca to life, was given strict instructions to stay close to the crew while filming scenes in the dense and mysterious California redwoods. The reason? The production team feared that Mayhew, towering at over seven feet tall in his Wookiee costume, might be mistaken for the elusive Bigfoot by local hunters.

The image capturing this intriguing slice of cinematic history is divided into two sections. The left side portrays a scenic, slightly eerie forest scene, believed to be the California redwoods. These forests, known for their tall, slim trees and dense underbrush, create a sense of mystery and depth. Bathed in a bluish tint, the scene suggests the early morning or late evening, adding to the overall enigmatic atmosphere.

On the right side, Chewbacca, the tall, hairy Wookiee with brown fur and blue eyes, is seen in a close-up. With his mouth slightly open, showing his teeth, he appears to be growling or speaking. This vivid image of Chewbacca highlights the striking resemblance that could easily confuse a casual observer or an eager hunter.

User reactions to this anecdote have been varied and amusing. One commenter humorously noted the differences between Chewbacca and Bigfoot, pointing out the medium short fur of Chewbacca compared to Bigfoot's medium long fur. Another questioned the legality of hunting in a national park, while others expressed disbelief and concern over the idea of shooting Bigfoot. Some users even debated the existence of Bigfoot, citing the lack of evidence despite numerous hunter claims.

Interestingly, one comment highlighted a local issue in California, suggesting that Chewbacca might be mistaken for a threat to pot farmers, rather than a mythical creature. Another user humorously pointed out that Bigfoot is reputed to reside in Washington, not Northern California.

This amusing yet cautionary tale from the Star Wars set serves as a reminder of the unique challenges faced during film productions, especially when working in locations as distinctive as the California redwoods. It also underscores the enduring fascination and cultural impact of both Chewbacca and the legendary Bigfoot.

You would have to be an idiot to mistake a Chewbacca for a big foot. Chewbaccas have medium short fur where bigfoots have medium long fur.

Isn’t it illegal to hunt in a national park?

Guys I'm pretty sure there's a bigfoot on my screen right now. Not sure what to do.

Is there any moment you shouldn't be afraid of being shot while in the US?

Cthulhuonabike

My biggest argument against the existence of big foot is the absolutely insane amount of hunter rednecks that are convinced they are real, and still not one bagged; not even a set of remains. I mean, we have found dinosaur remains all over. You're telling me there is a criptic roaming around with viable reproductivity that hasn't been shot, photographed, or otherwise chronicalled by anyone in over 200 yrs? I don't think you're gonna find it
