A recent video on Imgur titled "It's right there on the bottle" has sparked a humorous yet informative debate on why some people refrigerate their hot sauce. The video creator amusingly questions, "Why do my white friends put their hot sauce in the refrigerator?" before discovering that the bottle indeed instructs to "Refrigerate after opening."

The video has garnered a variety of reactions. One user humorously acknowledges, "Aight. aight. You got me there. LMAO." Another shares practical advice, noting, "I've had a few that were closer to chili oil than hot sauce that I put in the fridge; cold keeps the oil from going rancid. But otherwise hot sauces tend to be acidic enough not to need a fridge, as acid works best at room temperature."

A mixed-race user chimes in, "Well, I'm black/mixed race and I put my hot sauce in the fridge. Mostly because I have cats and they knock everything off the table." This points to diverse reasons for refrigeration beyond just ethnic stereotypes.

Some users assumed the video was a joke about mayonnaise, with one stating, "I assume the joke is showing mayo. Right?" Another user from Texas shares, "As a Texan, I didn't understand this stereotype at all until I moved to Wisconsin, and every time I ordered spicy food, it was mild."

Practical considerations also play a role, as one commenter explains, "See my point is that, yes, hot sauces do not *have* to be refrigerated, but why would I separate my sauces? All my 'in use' sauces hang out in the fridge. I don't wanna assign a second sauce place in a cabinet somewhere. Also, I like cold hot sauce; it tastes better and doesn't get stale as fast. In my anecdotal opinion."

A user with food safety concerns adds, "While hot sauce is safe to leave out, that's only if people aren't getting food on the mouth of the bottle. Bluntly, I don't trust myself or my friend group to not contaminate the thing."

There are also mentions of specific types of hot sauce, such as Sriracha and Chipotle sauce, with one user pointing out, "They said for Sriracha that it's best to refrigerate to retain the color; otherwise, it'll change," and another noting, "Some hot sauce says to refrigerate after opening, I think. The Chipotle sauce I buy doesn't, but every time we have tacos or pizza, I keep finding it in there."

The video humorously highlights the cultural and practical reasons behind refrigerating hot sauce, proving that whether it's for food safety, personal preference, or simply following the label's instructions, there's no one-size-fits-all answer.

This engaging and relatable content has resonated with many, sparking laughter and thoughtful discussions. So next time someone questions why hot sauce is in the fridge, just remember—it's right there on the bottle!

Because the sauce being cold has zero effect on it's hotness?

This was funny, before I saw 15 other white people stealing the punchline... it's worse than a repost. It's worse than hearing 5 friends telling the same joke at the pub

Even if it doesn't need to be refrigerated, it doesn't hurt it and it is a condiment, so it belongs to the other condiments in the fridge.
