In a world where smartphones are omnipresent and capturing every moment has become second nature, a recent meme circulating on Imgur humorously suggests an alternative approach: drawing from memory. The image, shared by a user with the handle "@workmancarti," has sparked a wave of laughter and commentary online.

The meme begins with the text, "saw a guy hold his baby up to a painting like this today," setting the stage for a comedic visual. Below this caption, there is a hand-drawn sketch on yellowish paper. The drawing is rudimentary, resembling the artistic skills of a child, and depicts a person with short, unkempt hair holding up a small baby in front of what appears to be a painting. The baby is illustrated with minimal detail, capturing the simplicity and innocence of the moment.

The humor is further amplified by a tweet from user "anaid," who goes by the handle "@workmancarti." The tweet reads, "we should stop taking pictures of people in public and resort back to drawing from memory," encapsulating the meme's essence. The suggestion to revert to hand-drawn memories instead of digital captures brings a nostalgic and humorous twist to the ongoing debate about privacy and public photography.

The meme has elicited a variety of reactions from users, ranging from admiration for the dad's effort to humorous takeaways. One user commented, "I mean, good for that dad," while another quipped, "Draw me like one of your museum dads holding up a baby." Some found deeper cultural commentary in the meme, with a user stating, "I think this is part of digital cancer. Way too many people are way too comfortable with filming strangers without their permission and then sharing it online."

Others related to the simplicity and charm of the drawing, reminiscing about their own artistic endeavors. "I did this for my newborn son. I was Van Gogh's Starry Night. He really looked at it," shared one user. Another added, "Helping your baby appreciate art is nice," highlighting the positive aspect of the meme.

The meme also sparked discussions about the experience of art and the impact of constant digital documentation. One user mentioned, "I just got back from Italy. More places need to start banning taking photos. It is incredibly sad how many people are entirely unable to just experience a place anymore."

In essence, this meme by "@workmancarti" serves as a humorous yet thought-provoking commentary on modern society's obsession with digital captures. By suggesting a return to the simpler, more personal method of drawing from memory, it encourages viewers to reflect on their own practices and the value of experiencing moments without the lens of a camera.

I don't know. This is far beyond the artistic skills of some of us.

I think this is part of digital cancer. Way too many f***s are way too comfortable with filming strangers without their permission and to then share it online. „but it’s allowed, you’re in public blah blah“. S***. It should be common courtesy not to do it. Not to mention that other countries are way stricter when it comes to filming in public.
