AGES ago, I worked in IT at a medical research place and one researcher had a hard drive crash and he lost LOTS of his research (idiot even shipped his computer here when hired, without making a backup first). Anyway, I sent it to a pro data recovery place, and it came back a while later with the note "Your drive is repaired, we fixed the spindle and formatted it for you". I was like, um, what happened to the data recovery? No answer.

And kids, that's why you destroy anything storage that's getting replaced or decommissioned. OR your company will be on a news for compromised customers info.

just put your data on a public ftp server and people will back it up for you. Common knowledge. (But really I'm impressed)

I'm an automotive locksmith and I have to do something very similar to pull eprom flash data from Landrover/Jag/Audi/VW/Porsche/Mercedes vehicles in order to program new keys when all keys are lost. Makes me feel like a rocket scientist but it's simple really.

Seems like a lot of work just to Rick roll someone, but it would be legendary
