Small Dogs: Love or Loathe?
Small dogs often evoke strong reactions from people. While some adore these pint-sized pets, others find them less appealing. One pet enthusiast, for instance, doesn’t hate small dogs and will pet them if they approach, given the owner's permission. However, they find certain small dog breeds, especially Chihuahuas and Maltese, unattractive due to their appearance. This sentiment is shared by many who are put off by the runny noses and brown tear tracks common in these breeds.
Interestingly, this individual generally does not prefer dogs due to their high energy levels. Yet, they concede that bigger dogs at least look nice compared to their smaller counterparts. This brings up an intriguing point: the drastic transformation from wolves to some small dog breeds leaves many puzzled.
The Aesthetic Divide
The aesthetic appeal of small dogs is a major point of contention. People often proudly show pictures of their small dogs, which some find unattractive. One enthusiast even finds people with small dogs more insufferable about their pets. This dislike extends to the appearance of small dogs that seem to be the result of severe selective inbreeding.
However, not all small dogs are viewed negatively. For example, Jack Russells are often seen as still looking like dogs, which makes them more acceptable to some. This divide in opinion highlights how subjective pet preferences can be.
A Change of Heart
Interestingly, some people’s opinions about small dogs can change over time. One individual used to dislike small dogs but ended up adopting a Chihuahua-Pomeranian mix that they find quite handsome. This adopted dog is described as having crisp ears, a pale face with dark skin around the eyes, a white chest, and a coat resembling a red fox. This shows that personal experience with a pet can significantly alter one’s perspective.
While acknowledging the existence of crusty small dogs with gross hair, this person doesn’t believe this applies to all small dogs. They favor medium-sized dogs and appreciate good-looking animals, including horses and dogs.
Behavioral Concerns
Behavioral issues are another significant factor influencing opinions about small dogs. One pet enthusiast attributes many behavior issues in small dogs to owners not training them properly because of their size. Untrained small dogs often become yappy or exhibit worse behaviors, which can be quite off-putting.
For example, one individual dogsat a pug that snored constantly due to breathing issues, even when just lying down. This kind of experience can leave a lasting negative impression.
Family Dynamics and Small Dogs
Family dynamics also play a role in how people perceive small dogs. One person cannot express their dislike for their mother's dog because it makes their mother happy. However, they find the dog loud, needy, and spoiled, and blame the mother for enabling this behavior. This highlights how personal relationships can complicate pet preferences.
Opinions about small dogs are deeply personal and influenced by a variety of factors, including aesthetics, behavior, and personal experiences. Whether you love or loathe small dogs, it’s clear that they evoke strong feelings and will continue to be a topic of lively debate among pet enthusiasts.
