Joe Rogan's Revolutionary MMA Rule Changes: No Cages, No Stand-Ups, Stricter Penalties
Updated Wednesday, September 25, 2024 at 12:00 AM CDT
Joe Rogan, renowned for his insightful commentary on the sport of Mixed Martial Arts (MMA), has proposed a series of groundbreaking rule changes that could significantly transform the sport. In a recent discussion on the JRE MMA Show 162 with Belal Muhammad, Rogan delved into his vision for a reformed MMA landscape.
One of the most striking changes Rogan suggests is the elimination of cages. He believes that fights should occur on a basketball court with competitors battling it out in the center. This approach, according to Rogan, would create a more open and dynamic fight environment.
Another major alteration Rogan advocates for is the modification of gloves. He proposes covering the fingertips with leather, akin to mittens, which he argues would aid grappling without affecting striking capabilities. This adjustment aims to enhance safety and efficacy in hand-to-hand combat.
Rogan is also a strong proponent of abolishing stand-ups. In his view, fighters should not be stood up for any reason other than an injury or a foul. He emphasizes that if a fighter is taken down, they must work their way out of the situation without external assistance. "You got taken down, you got to get up," he asserts, highlighting the importance of skill and resilience in such scenarios.
Furthermore, Rogan suggests the introduction of a "danger zone" in the fighting space. Repeatedly entering this zone would result in point deductions, thereby encouraging fighters to maintain strategic positioning. He also calls for stricter penalties for fouls, such as low blows and eye pokes, with immediate point deductions for such infractions.
Rogan's proposals reflect his deep understanding of the sport and his desire to see it evolve in a way that emphasizes skill, strategy, and safety. For a more comprehensive look into Rogan's innovative ideas, watch the full discussion on the JRE MMA Show 162 with Belal Muhammad.
