I hope that the property is treated respectfully by those who travel it.

Keep in mind this has a lot to do with real estate laws and they vary state to state. If the public uses your land for a certain amount of time they can gain rights to keep using the land forever. Time and type of use varies by state. In some states if you post “no trespassing” they are notified and cannot gain those rights. Other states if you give them permission like this it can also be taken away later and the public can’t earn prescriptive rights.

We have a family farm and we also own about 50 acres of forest, it’s ok if a family take a walk with their dog, what is not ok is peoples that come with their ATV without permission and then do snowmobile without permission then they get from our forest to our fields and start destroying the winter wheat that is growing under the snow, then when you tell them that they have no right to be here since its private property and that they destroy income, they usually reply either: well my brother in law told me that he usually come here(he can’t and he should not do it), or second answer is: Well i live in a city so where am i supposed to use my snowmobile? To that the answers is: buy your own (removed) land.

other side says trespassers will be shot on sight.

Most of Vermont is like this, unless you see no trespassing signs (or purple paint marks, which also serve as extensions of no trespassing signs) which in my experience were mostly just marking off areas closer to peoples homes. I also have seen signs that just say "no hunting, fishing, or motorized vehicles" - meaning that just hiking is okay. Especially the snowmobile trails, they pass through tons of private property. There was however an incident in my town where a snowmobiler hit a farmers dog, and the next year they had to re-route the snowmobile trail because he wouldn't allow it to pass through his property anymore.

Completely understandable. And very regrettable for those of us who are respectful.

Travel through in peace. Take nothing but pictures, leave behind nothing more than footprints.

Would be nice if people would respect places like this. I've lost faith in humanity and there will be trash along the trail before long.

Too many times people are disrespectful and damage property. Not worth it to "be nice". People (removed) and I wish they didn't.
