In an era dominated by digital photography, a captivating video on Imgur has taken the internet by storm, showcasing photos of baseball taken with a 130-year-old panoramic film camera. The vintage charm and historical significance of this camera have sparked a wave of nostalgia and curiosity among viewers.

The video presents a mesmerizing glimpse into the past, highlighting the exceptional resolution that this ancient camera could achieve. One user aptly comments, "Megapixel... schmegapixel... that's a lot of resolution for its day," underscoring the impressive quality of the images despite the camera’s age.

For many, the video evokes fond memories of simpler times. "This takes me back... baseball, ray!" writes one nostalgic viewer, while another expresses gratitude, "This is awesome. Thanks for sharing." The sentiment is shared by many who are amazed by the camera's ability to capture such detailed black-and-white photographs, offering a unique perspective on the nuances of the game and its surroundings.

However, not all reactions are purely positive. Some viewers are critical of the modern presentation of these historical images. "Taking a wide panoramic photo with a 130 yr old camera, and then disrespect it by showing the photo via an up***ht phone format using Vertical Video Syndrome of today's social media world... That's not the way to treat a panoramic photo," one user laments, advocating for a more traditional landscape display to do justice to the panoramic nature of the images. Another echoes this sentiment, remarking, "Awesome, but I wish it was filmed horizontally so the panorama can fill so much more of the screen. It's hard to get hyped about a postage stamp in the middle of the screen (even a panoramic one)."

The video also prompts a discussion on the practicality and cost of using such old technology. "Neat. But, I learned and shot on film for decades. It's expensive and impractical. I would never go back unless there were some compelling reason. Such as legal documentation for examples," shares one experienced photographer. Another adds, "130 years ago, the film must have been extremely expensive compared to what’s available today," highlighting the significant advancements in photography over the years.

Despite the mixed reactions, the video has undeniably captured the imaginations of many, with some viewers even expressing a desire to learn more about the specific ballpark featured in the photos. The charm of analog photography continues to hold a special place in the hearts of enthusiasts, as one user nostalgically reflects, "Analog panorama, beautiful."

In a world where digital convenience often overshadows historical methods, this 130-year-old panoramic film camera reminds us of the artistry and craftsmanship that once defined photography. While some may find the methods impractical today, the legacy of such technology continues to inspire and captivate, offering a timeless window into the past.

You could just use an iPhone, you know?

That’s really cool. I’m blown away by the resolution. Also, B&W photography gives a different and valuable perspective to the details. 130 years ago, the film must have been extremely expensive compared to what’s available today.

Taking a wide panoramic photo with a 130 yr old camera, and then disrespect it by showing the photo via an up***ht phone format using Vertical Video Syndrome of today's social media world... That's not the way to treat a panoramic photo. You'll need to properly scan the photo and upload the result in full landscape so we can experience its full quality. Just my 0.02c.

Awesome, but I wish it was filmed horizontally so the _panorama_ can fill so much more of the screen. It's hard to get hyped about a postage stamp in the middle of the screen (even a panoramic one)

Why would you use vertical video for showing a panoramic photo
