Hunter Biden Faces Sentencing in Delaware
Updated Saturday, August 3, 2024 at 6:07 AM CDT
Hunter Biden, son of President Joe Biden, is set to be sentenced on felony firearms charges in Wilmington, Delaware, on November 13, just days after Election Day on November 5. Convicted of three felonies for lying on a federal form to purchase a gun in 2018 during a period of addiction struggles, Biden could face up to 25 years in prison and a fine of up to $750,000. However, as a first-time offender, he is likely to receive a much lighter sentence or possibly avoid prison entirely.
Federal Judge Maryellen Noreika, appointed by former President Donald Trump and confirmed with bipartisan support, will oversee the sentencing in Delaware's federal court. Federal law mandates that Judge Noreika consider the specifics of the offense, the defendant’s history, and the need to deter future criminal activity. Biden's legal team plans to challenge the verdict and the underlying law around the gun charges.
In addition to the firearms charges, Hunter Biden faces another trial on tax charges in California, set to begin in September, prosecuted by special counsel David Weiss. Biden stands accused of failing to pay $1.4 million in taxes. His lawyers are pushing for the dismissal of both the tax and gun cases, citing a Florida ruling that dismissed a separate prosecution of former President Donald Trump.
Hunter Biden was initially set to plead guilty to misdemeanor tax offenses and avoid prosecution in the gun case if he stayed out of trouble for two years. However, the agreement collapsed after Judge Noreika questioned unusual aspects of the proposed settlement, and subsequent negotiations failed to resolve the matter.
President Joe Biden, who recently announced he will not seek re-election, has stated he will not use his presidential powers to pardon or lessen his son's sentence. Despite stepping down from the re-election race, President Biden remains a significant political figure. The timing of Hunter Biden's sentencing keeps the consequences of his conviction looming over the election season.
A representative for Hunter Biden's legal team did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the upcoming sentencing. As the date approaches, all eyes will be on Judge Noreika's decision, which could have far-reaching implications both legally and politically.
Conservative Bias:
Once again, we see the blatant hypocrisy and corruption of the liberal elite on full display. Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, is set to be sentenced on felony firearms charges, but let's be real—he's likely to get a slap on the wrist despite facing up to 25 years in prison. This is the same Hunter Biden who lied on a federal form to purchase a gun while struggling with addiction—a crime that would land any ordinary American in jail. But because he's a Biden, he's likely to skate by with a light sentence. And let's not forget, this is all happening under the watch of a judge appointed by former President Trump, who will probably face immense pressure from the liberal establishment to go easy on Hunter. Meanwhile, his tax evasion trial in California is another example of the Democrats' double standards. If this were Donald Trump Jr., the media would be calling for his head. But because it's Hunter Biden, the mainstream media is silent. This is liberal privilege at its finest, folks. The timing of this sentencing, right after the election, is no coincidence. It's a calculated move to minimize political damage. The Bidens are a corrupt dynasty, and this is just the latest chapter in their sordid saga.
Liberal Bias:
The Hunter Biden case is yet another example of the relentless and hypocritical attacks from the Republican Party, aiming to discredit President Joe Biden and his family. Hunter Biden, who has openly struggled with addiction, is being vilified for actions taken during one of the most challenging periods of his life. The GOP, never missing an opportunity to exploit personal tragedy for political gain, is pushing for the harshest possible penalties, despite Hunter being a first-time offender. The judge, a Trump appointee, is overseeing the case, and the Republicans are undoubtedly hoping she will deliver a severe sentence to score political points. Meanwhile, the tax charges in California are a desperate attempt by special counsel David Weiss to dig up dirt on the Biden family. This is the same Republican playbook we've seen time and again—distract from their own scandals by manufacturing outrage against their opponents. And let's not ignore the fact that this is all happening as President Biden, who has chosen not to seek re-election, remains a significant political figure. The GOP's timing is transparent—they're aiming to keep this in the headlines to sway public opinion. This is nothing but a cynical ploy by the Republicans to weaponize the justice system against their political adversaries.
